Heavenly 200 Game 1

 

What's this? wasn't this series over?? Well yes but I have had a few months from the game and on returning sucked even more than before. So have decided on my play and write up approach for another 100 games but this time trying harder to analyse something in game that could have been done differently. I will post these at a lesser pace and as I have them stacking can say that the ones at start are a little more succinct than the later ones..

My first opponent was a  Canadian with an account of a year and just under 500 games in that period. Most at start but now down to 11 games or so per month so dropping availability. Even so the best rating so far has been 17k which they were at during this game.

Anyway. The first tactical point I wanted to address was me mis-handling a 44 invasion. Early on a double hane 44 counter gave a slight advantage but AI says I should have pushed the L a few more times which would have given me the corner! (only 4 liberties..) Moves 7-31

As above whereas what I did was to try and pressurise the central stones so lost the 4 corner stones , failed to get 3 captures and the corner itself..

White then played better and dragged back a 5 stone or so advantage

In the middle I was greedy and focused far too heavily on capturing 6 stones (succeeded but the line I eventually made was not built for points so allowing white to pull further ahead).

You can see the 4 I was focused on; and yes it did gain points but white was able to surround and contain.

It would have been much worse except that I was lucky in a bottom invasion that white really should have killed.

Even so it was a loss by 8 or so points (and should have been 30 or so).
