Ueno Risa - Captain Wakagoi team 25-26

 

19 year old Ueno Risa (上野 梨紗), born 24th June 2006 is the younger sister of Ueno Asami so a talented family. She became Professional at 12 years 9 months so is currently the 3rd youngest female to become Professional in Japan. Her Sensei is Fujisawa Kazunari - Fujisawa Rina's father.

She is known for her study and tends to try to complete at least 300 a day though she also goes for speed as opposed to complexity saying 

Because I think you can learn a lot by solving a lot of problems, rather than spending a lot of time on one problem. Of course, there are times when I solve difficult problems, but I place importance on doing a lot of them.

 You cannot fault her progress since becoming Professional as she is currently the 4th best Japanese female player after her sister, Namakura Sumire and Fujisawa Rina. She also has an excellent pro win rate of 62.7%

Play style wise she does differ from her sister. She has explained

My sister excels at aerial warfare [large-scale influence fights], but I like partial battles [localized fights]. If choosing between real territory (実利) or influence/shape (模様), I'm a shape player.

She tends to focus on building resilient frameworks that then allow her to attack opponents which leads to a flexible play style. Her weaknesses tend to be around big board strategy but this is something that will improve over time.  

Last year as Captain she won 6 and lost only 2 so is the star player of the team.

Her current ELO is 3179 with her being the #298th best ranked player in the world.

That is an impressive ELO increase over 6! years.

At her young age she has also started hitting the finals of championships as well.
